Cleaning / Disinfection of Devices and Accessories

Modified on Tue, 7 Jul at 2:41 PM

Due to frequent requests with regards to disinfection, Neuroelectrics aims to provide our customers with guidance ensuring the performance and safety characteristics of our products are not altered.
After each use it is necessary to thoroughly clean the headcap and electrodes in order to extend their life and prevent deterioration.
In case disinfection is required after cleaning, Neuroelctrics recommends the following validated methods:
Electrodes:
The Ag/AgCl electrodes are porous and therefore behave like sponges: they absorb water and electrode gel. The deeper these liquids penetrate the electrode, the longer it takes for them to evaporate. Corrosion will take place as a consequence and, in the long term, it will make the electrodes noisier and decrease the signal quality.
When disinfection is required, only standard isopropanol or ethanol formulations should be used.
The electrodes and cable insulation can not withstand steam. The electrodes must not be sterilized, including via autoclave.
Once disinfected and rinsed (only with tap water) / clean, allow the electrodes to air dry, avoiding direct exposure to sunlight.
  • Gel residues left to air-dry creates concentrated corrosive salts, causing discoloration and pitting.
  • When drying and storing the electrodes, use the provided electrode-holder card and ensure there is no physical contact between Ag/AgCl pellet and any metal, as this will start a rapid corrosion and disintegration process.
  • Immediately after the drying process is complete, store the electrodes in the provided electrode-holder inside the plastic bag.

Headcap:
Neuroelectrics recommends thorough washing with warm tap water and soap. The head cap should be washed in a manner similar to the handwashing.

Cables and Necbox:

Neuroelectrics recommends using a tissue soaked with isopropyl alcohol to carefully lay wipe all surfaces. It is not recommended to use soap and water, or any other cleaning method in these products as this could affect the electronics.

Touchproof Adapter:

In case the Touchproof Adapter modules or cables become dirty, they can be wiped with a dry paper towel.

It can also be cleaned using the following disinfectants, avoiding contact with the metallic parts of the connectors and preventing the ingress of fluid into the module

• Alcohol-based spray disinfectant (ethanol 24.75 g/100 g solution; propan-1-ol 35 g/100 g solution).

• Alcohol-free disinfectant wipes (didecyldimethylammonium chloride (DDAC) 0.4–0.8%; triamine 0.4–0.6%; 2-aminoethanol 0.4–0.8%; alcohol ethoxylate 0.4–0.8%; water >95%).
